Autumn buys that are making me look forward to the colder months

After two years of “work-from-home chic” and “comfy loungewear”, this A/W season is all about reigniting our love for fashion. As the world slowly returns to normal, we rejoice at the thought of a Christmas office party, or a New Year's Eve celebration with our nearest and dearest. Whilst we would usually find comfort in our cosiest knit jumpers with a cup of hot chocolate, this year it is all about experimenting with pieces slightly out of the comfort zone of which we have been hibernating in for so long. If the thought of wearing bright colours and tailored pieces makes you want to run for your comfiest pair of leggings (or pyjamas!), then do not fear. At Robert Goddard, we have put together our picks for the season ahead which are guaranteed to make you feel like your usual glamorous self again!
Approaching the colder months, we know that the summer pastels are put away in favour of monochrome shades and beige neutrals. But this year why not try something a bit more adventurous? Colour doesn’t have to be intimidating! A piece that executes this perfectly is a brightly coloured jumper. A rich dark firewood colour is absolutely beautiful on all skin tones and adds colour without sacrificing comfort. Paired with smart tailored trousers for a lunch with the girls, or even with a pair of comfy jeggings like the Oui Baxtor Jeggings for a more casual look.
Knitwear is a classic staple of the A/W style but this season is all about the ultra-feminine silhouette. Long gone are the heavy and shapeless jumpers. This season is all about comfortable, soft-to-the-touch fabrics with innovative cuts that suit every figure. Try a knee-length cable knit dress that can be worn bare-legged or with a pair of chunky tights on colder days. A thick roll-neck design means you can lose the scarf this year and still feel cosy. Pair this with Biker Boots for a grunge look or your favourite pair of trainers.
If bright colours aren’t your thing, the next outfit on the list will satisfy a monochrome palate! Try layering a jumpsuit with a crisp, white shirt for a high-fashion look. (You can be creative with collars, from a bow tie style to an oversized relaxed fit.) Alternatively, a turtleneck top can be worn for a more informal feel. A jumpsuit is a timeless piece that can be styled in several different ways: a cool jumpsuit in the summer or a layered piece in the winter. Paired with any of our heels or heeled boots, this outfit will make you look elegant and stylish with relatively little effort.
Although we might be waving goodbye to our Christmas ski trip this year, who says we can’t bring the alpine style to Britain? Before you grab the salopettes and head down to your local bar, many designer brands have been bringing out gorgeous pieces for A/W21 which can transport you straight to Val d’Isere in style! Our first pick is a faux-fur jacket. This style of jacket is so versatile and is definitely a staple piece that can be worn year after year, with a number of different outfits. Not only is it elegant and stylish, but it is also practical as some are reversible for the colder nights when a faux-fur lining is what you crave.
Another alpine-inspired choice is a fair isle jumper. It works beautifully as a layered outfit with a gilet, giving you an extra level of warmth. Why not try pink, yellow and red colours which are normally associated with summer florals. This a great way of introducing colour into a winter wardrobe. The saturated shades are a great way to brighten your mood on a gloomy winter's morning.
