New York Fashion Week: What to Look Out for I THE STYLE INSIDER

New York Fashion Week is almost upon us! September (also known as fashion month), plays host to four of the biggest events of the year, including NYFW. Spanning from the 6th-14th September, NYFW has been predicted to be busier and more exciting than ever before!

Last week the prestigious CFDA released an open letter addressing the importance and well-being of models at NYFW. They stated, “the CFDA is working to ensure the week celebrates American creativity and diversity while protecting the wellness and safety of models.” Encouraging inclusion within the industry, ensuring models have privacy backstage and advising upping the age limit on models used. On this subject, they said, “We always recommended not working with models under 16 but in light of recent revelations, we now encourage you to consider only working with models aged 18 and over.” To read this letter in full click here

Though this NYFW build-up has been filled with news updates, it will soon be all about the clothes. You’ll be privy to the latest designs for SS19 and here are the moments we are really looking forward too!

NICOLA GLASS’ TAKE ON KATE SPADE…

Just months after the news broke of that the prestigious designer Kate Spade committed suicide, the brand will show its first ever runway show with Nicola Glass as the new Creative Director. With years of experience from Micheal Kors, it will be interesting to see the latest collection and the tribute to the late designer.

MINKOFF MAKEOVER…

Not appearing directly on the NYFW schedule, Rebecca Minkoff is using the week to rebrand. With all new videos to promote her rebranding going live in stores on the 5th September, her new tagline “I Am Many” will be premiered.

ESSENCE HONOURING NAOMI CAMPBELL…

The magazine Essence will be honouring model veteran Naomi Campbell this year at their Street Style Day Party. It’s sure to be a huge event with a VIP guest list and sensational street style that we will all be drolling over by the end of the night.

CHANGING UP TRADITIONAL RUNWAY SHOWS…

A trend amongst designers this season is opting for a more relaxed environment opposed to the runway. With luncheons, cocktails and dinners as the locations on the invitations, it’s fair to say designers are swaying to becoming more lifestyle brands. With lead designers such as Ralph Lauren taking to the dinner table, this could be a format we will see more and more off over the coming seasons.

RIHANNA CLOSING NEW YORK FASHION WEEK…

A slight to change to what we are used to, Rihanna will be closing the whole event with her Savage x Fenty lingerie range. Normally a spot held by Marc Jacobs, the final show of the week is predicted to be a game-changer.

The last time one of her collections was shown at NYFW was her Puma collaboration. Slightly different to before, we are expecting big things from this show. Known for her inclusivity with her Fenty makeup range, we want to see versatility and fun on the runway.
