Six Stylish Ways To Wear Animal Print This Season | THE STYLE INSIDER

Previously reserved for the bravest of fashionistas, animal print has taken the world by storm yet again. It’s a trend that comes around time after time and has quickly become a staple that every woman should experiment with, but the loud prints can seem scary to some.

Trust us though – the only thing scary about these patterns are the animals they are inspired by. Whether you’re a newbie to the trend or in need of a mix-up with your looks, take some inspiration from these six chic animal print outfits.

HOW TO WEAR ANIMAL PRINT…

  • Let the print do the talking. Create an outfit featuring one strong print, top to bottom.
  • Experiment with different prints. If you’re feeling daring, mix and match different animal prints together. Leopard and tiger stripe, zebra and cow print – have fun with it.
  • Team with black. Animal prints upgrade any basic look, giving plain pieces a touch of edgy glamour. Pair with basic white or black pieces until you feel more confident.
  • Start subtly. If you’re not sure about the trend, try incorporating it into a look via accessories such as bags, scarves and sunglasses.

OUTFIT ONE

Little black dresses have been a staple in every woman’s wardrobe since the dawn of time – or at least that’s what it feels like. Take your outfit up a notch by replacing this classic for a leopard print dress.

From the office to the dancefloor, wrap dresses have been everywhere this year and are remarkably sophisticated. Leopard print complements this style of dress perfectly, giving a classy piece an edgy new look.

Pair your leopard print wrap dress with a black leather jacket and mules for a look that has tons of contemporary charm. Sling a shopper bag over your shoulder and you’ll be good to go.

Rob’s Top Tip: Experimenting with different lengths is an easy way of mixing up your look. Mini and knee-length wrap dresses look great on petite girls, with the shorter hem lengthening the legs. Midi and maxi, on the other hand, look sophisticated on anyone and makes anoutfit more formal.

OUTFIT TWO

Oversized silk blouses are a must in the office, especially when tucked into some flattering tailored trousers. They exude elegance and are easy to style, so much so that they shouldn’t just be worn behind a desk.

Instead of going for your normal style of casual blouse, opt for an oversized leopard print shirt and pair it with your favourite light wash skinny jeans. Tuck the shirt in loosely, so it has a breezy, laidback look rather than looking overly fitted.

Depending on your preference, this shirt and blouse combo looks equally as good with black heels as it does with white low-top pumps. If the weather is a little chilly, a bomber jacket is a great choice.

Rob’s Top Tip: Want to take this look from daytime chic to work appropriate? Opt for black jeans and ankle boots instead. This look works for any season too, just swap the jeans for shorts if you’re feeling the heat.

HOW TO WEAR ZEBRA PRINT

OUTFIT ONE

As much as we love the getting ready process before a night out, there isn’t always time to get glammed up and pick out a new outfit. Mini slip dresses are an absolute essential due to how versatile they are and zebra prints look amazing in this statement style.

For an everyday look, wear your zebra print slip dress over a plain white tee. The top should be fitted and act like a blank canvas with the print, which should always be the main event. A waist belt will tie the whole look together and add a flattering shape to the dress.

Style it with monochrome chunky trainers, an across body bag and a leather jacket for a trendy look that’s perfect for a day of shopping.

This sort of look is easy to overhaul so it looks more appropriate for a rooftop bar. Take off the tee and shoes, replacing them for a layered necklace and killer black heels.

Rob’s Top Tip: Makeup is key for turning a look from day to night. Go for a more natural look during the day with nude lipsticks and light mascara, then switch it up for vampy eyes and red lips when heading out for the night.

OUTFIT TWO

Zebra print looks amazing when layered over plain pieces, with black and white roll necks looking particularly stylish when worn under a zebra cami.

Roll necks are a key piece in any woman’s wardrobe and wearing a cami over them gives it a 90s vibe. Tuck the tops into some black high waisted jeans or spice it up by wearing a leather skirt instead. Either way, this look is perfect for day drinks with the girls.

Depending on how casual you want to go, you can wear some sleek ankle boots or strappy platform sandals.

Rob’s Top Tips: Accessories are just as important as the clothes when it comes to building the perfect outfit. Berets are ideal for that winter-to-spring wardrobe and look amazing with roll necks. Add a belt with a double ring design to really set off the look and you’ll be good to go.

HOW TO WEAR SNAKE PRINT

OUTFIT ONE

Snake print can be quite daunting, especially if you’re new to wearing animal print in general. Getting it right is actually quite simple as the print speaks for itself, meaning simple pieces are given an instant upgrade when worn with this pattern.

You can find everything from t-shirts to headbands in this print, but skirts look particularly good with the design. Pleated midi skirts are another trend that works perfectly with animal prints and are easy to wear for a number of occasions.

Heading to work? Pair the snake print skirt with a black roll neck, heeled boots and a tan trench coat for an outfit that never goes out of style.

Midi skirts aren’t just for the office, though, and are a great transitional piece as we head into Spring. Tuck a white or black tee into the skirt, rolling up the sleeves slightly to add extra detail and trade boots for some casual white plimsoll trainers.

Rob’s Top Tip: If you dislike the midi length or feel it doesn’t flatter your figure, choose a mini wrap skirt with the same print instead. It’ll have the same effect without being too far out of your comfort zone.

OUTFIT TWO

You don’t need to go all-out to use animal prints, one or two smaller pieces can pull together the simplest of looks. Snake print boots take a plain outfit to another level entirely, regardless of how plain it was originally.

An oversized white shirt, black distressed jeans and black baker boy hat is a classic outfit that suits a plethora of occasions. It’s stylish and modern but you can enhance it further with a pair of sharp snake print boots.

They add an instant boost to the look, turning an already stylish outfit into one that looks like it’s come from the pages of a glossy fashion magazine.

Complete the look with some tortoise shell hoops, an oversized denim jacket and a cross body bag.

Rob’s Top Tip: As mentioned, mix-matching prints can create a look that’s runway ready. If you’re feeling brave, swap the white blouse for a tiger or leopard print version to create a fashionable clash of snake and feline prints.
